Dear Local 111 & 2200 members,
As you are all aware workers represented by CUPE Local 4500 have been in bargaining with C.M.B.C. for several months. Unfortunately, the parties have reached an impasse that resulted in the union issuing a 72 hour strike notice that will take effect on Saturday January 6. At this time, CUPE 4500 are commencing with an overtime ban only. This will undoubtedly cause some service disruptions and create less than favorable working conditions for our membership. We ask that you remain patient and put the safety of yourself and passengers first.
We have had discussions with the CUPE executive as well as the employer as to what impact this will have on our members. UNIFOR local 111 & 2200, will be withdrawing all members that are participating in an acting role within the CUPE jurisdiction effective Saturday, this will not result in members losing the ability to resume those roles after the labour dispute.
If there is further escalation in job action including the inclusion of a full strike, Local 111 & 2200 members are reminded that as Union members we support the democratic bargaining process and the ability of unions to go on strike, as such, it is expected that UNIFOR Local 111 & 2200 members will not cross legal picket lines.
