Bargaining Update #3

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR UNIFOR ACL BARGAINING COMMITEE

Dear Members,

This past week your team sat down with Bell negotiators for the third bargaining session.

It is important to know that during the first two bargaining sessions a commitment on several non-monetary items was reached with the employer. Given that this is a tentative commitment until a full tentative agreement is reached we are unable to release details while negotiations are underway.

In the last few days, both the union and the employer’s side presented significant proposals regarding your work schedule and your time off.  It is fair to say that this week felt frustrating for our union team as we had a lot of dialogue, but little agreements were reached.  Both the Union and the Company agree that the items for negotiations in October will sway the ability to come to an agreement on the elements that were discussed this week.

It’s increasingly clear that Bell is seeking concessions in exchange for some of our demands.  Nonetheless, we continue to stand firm and defend our priorities vigorously to reach a fair tentative agreement.

What’s next?

Our next meeting with the employer is October 17 in Halifax. During the next round your team will outline more increasingly significant demands.

To continue to move forward in bargaining we need your help.  With workplace mobilization and a strong united front the bargaining team remains hopeful that negotiations can achieve meaningful workplace improvements and ensure good unionized jobs for the future.

It is important now, more than ever, that the membership comes together and prepares to mobilize to win a new contract. If we want to make gains, we must be prepared to take action and send the employer a clear united message about our priorities.

Stay tuned for details on upcoming mobilization plans – your bargaining team needs your support!

If you have questions, concerns about bargaining or the negotiations process, contact your local president or committee member.

In solidarity,

Your 2017 ACL Bargaining Team
