Blueprint Membership Bulletin

Share

Unifor Atlantic Communication Locals “Council” has recently had the Blueprint Process brought to our attention.

The “Blueprint” program involves mapping and breaking down a job or task.  One of the potential fallout of such process is job simplification; the identification and segregation of complex and simple tasks.

Empowered with such knowledge, past and present leaders in the Telecommunication industry have often sided with the elimination of simple isolated tasks within our Bargaining Unit in favor of alleged cheaper alternatives such as the contracting out of our work.  Simply put, these processes could potentially put your career in peril.

In the long term, the knowledge and skills that once were possessed by our members to provide exceptional customer experience disappears.  Instead, these packaged “how to do our job” processes provides the contractors with new tools that enable them to only provide a basic or adequate experience to our customers.

Recently, Bell has been using the Acting Management language from the Collective Agreement to have our own union members assist in the delivery of such career threatening programs. The Acting Management language was never intended to be used in such fashion. Acting management language was negotiated in 2004, for vacation and sick coverage primarily.

We, of the Council, strongly oppose the Bell Blueprint process and we seek the support of each and every one of you as we continue to fight to maintain our jobs here, at home, in Atlantic Canada.

If you are approached to accept an acting management position that involves the creation of training material, documentation of any sort, please contact your union representative.

In solidarity
