Civility Agreement Bulletin May 2016

05/13/2016

There have been a few incidents recently whereby the Company has asked union members in Atlantic Canada to sign a so-called “civility agreement.” This document states that both parties will adhere to a respective workplace and if they do not, dismissal from the Company could occur. The Council strongly objects to this practice and has informed the Company that no further requests be made of our members in this manner. The Council does not support the use of this Bell designed document or the requirement for our union members to sign it as individuals. Moreover, this is a direct violation of Article 4.05 of the Collective Agreement which prohibits “….written or verbal agreements between an employee and the company….except where mutually agreed between the employee, the Company and the Council Executive Board.”

Within Bell Aliant, the established and agreed upon process is the People Protections Policy, which can be found at the following link:

The Council would like to inform the union membership that they should not sign any form of this document, without first consulting with a shop steward or a member of the UACL Council, if they are asked to do so by Bell Management.
