Women's Advocates

WOMEN’S ADVOCATE PROGRAM

The role of the Women’s Advocate is to work with the membership of their local on issues that primarily effect women.  It is widely considered to be the most important and effective tool we have in the eradication of domestic violence and harassment.   What is important to note is that the Women’s Advocate role is one that holds the same level of confidentiality as that of any officer of the union.  They have received extensive training and have the support of their local. The employer is also engaged, by way of a company liaison when necessary and with the consultation and permission of the member. Together, they will work hand in hand with the Women’s Advocate, in helping women bring positive resolution to whatever problems they are facing.  A Women’s Advocate provides assistance in many ways such as researching available resources on all issues as well as being able to offer support at appointments which may be particularly difficult to attend alone.  Working together we can create a respectful, healthy and safe work environment for all.
