To Members of Unifor Atlantic Communication Locals:
On April 25, union representatives and the employer met for the first time to begin negotiating a new contract. Your union team, who are listed below, sat down with Bell negotiators to exchange initial proposals.
Negotiations for this collective agreement won’t be finished for several months, but at each stage, the team of elected representatives of your union will update you on progress.
The process won’t be quick or simple, and at times we might not have many details to share. The back-and-forth of negotiations often means that information changes from meeting to meeting or even from moment to moment. As of this first meeting, the union and the company's positions are far apart.
With that said, it is our mission to achieve meaningful workplace changes and to keep all members informed and prepared as we work toward a renewed and improved agreement.
We know from experience that our employer’s goals are different from ours, but the well-being of workers and the protection of good jobs here in Atlantic Canada is something we will vigorously defend.
Our next meeting with the employer is May 23 in Halifax.
If you have any questions or concerns about this process at any point, please contact your local president or workplace representative.
In Solidarity,
Your Bargaining Committee
