I would like to give an update on bargaining. We do not have dates set and will probably not start negotiations till the fall/early winter. There are a few reasons for the delay, and keep in mind it is not unusual for us to be delayed. MBLL is currently negotiating with Teamsters Surveillance, still have MGEU F&B & Liquor and are on a pause with CUPE Admin.
Your bargaining committee is accepting proposals for the upcoming set of negotiations. Submissions must be made in writing and can be emailed to unifor144@mymts.net or you can give your written proposal to your bargaining committee representative.
If you wish to make a change to existing language in the CBA, refer to the Article(s) and the change(s) you would like.
On Wednesday, the Unifor leadership team provided an update on the National Executive Board’s (NEB) review of an independent external investigation regarding a complaint that former National President Jerry Dias violated the union’s Constitution.
The findings of the investigation are deeply disappointing and disturbing. We understand the outrage that many of you feel. We share that outrage too.
OAKVILLE—Wage increases and job security are the highlights of the new collective agreement ratified today by Unifor Local 1256 members, ending their two-week strike at Oakville Transit.
“My congratulations to Oakville transit workers for standing up to the employer to win gains that will improve working conditions and benefits,” said Lana Payne, Unifor National Secretary-Treasurer.
Transit service in the region will resume on Friday, March 4, 2022.
OAKVILLE—Picket lines went up at 5 a.m. today as Oakville Transit refused to table an acceptable offer to improve working conditions and wages for members of Unifor Local 1256 since receiving a 72-hour strike notice on February 14, 2022.
“Front line workers have served with distinction during the pandemic and have earned a fair contract,” said Tim Mitchell, Unifor National Representative.
Our former National Representative Len Olafson has retired, we wish him the best in retirement and thank him for all of his guidance and hard work servicing the operations group since 2010.
We are pleased to welcome Suzanne King as a Service Representative working out of the Winnipeg office. Suzanne was the President of Local 681 representing Natural gas Workers and Meter Readers in the province of Manitoba. She has been active in the union movement for 23 years and sat on the PRC for 5 years. She also sat on the CEP executive board as a member at large from 2000-2004.
The current collective agreement expires June 4, 2022. Nominations for the bargaining committee will commence in the coming weeks. Nominations are open to all Unifor members, you may nominate yourself and keep in mind that only one nomination is required for each candidate.
