OPEB’S (other post employment benefits)
As everyone should be aware, as of April 1, 2019 Bell is taking away our OPEB’s. This amount is calculated as years of service for the Company after the age of 40, times $66.67 to a maximum amount of $1000 per year. This money is used to buy medical, dental and or life and accident insurance upon retirement.
As negotiated during bargaining in December 2017, the Company stated to the bargaining team that doctor’s notes would only be requested when there was a clear pattern of abuse of article 28.08 (Sickness Absence).

After a long year of negotiating with Bell, your Unifor ACL Bargaining team is confident that we are bringing back a strong tentative agreement and are recommending acceptance.
The most important story of this last round of negotiations is certainly, the ability of the Unifor ACL Bargaining Committee to revert the plans of the company with regards to the transformation of your respective pension plans.

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR UNIFOR ACL BARGAINING COMMITEE
Dear Members,
This past week your team sat down with Bell negotiators for the third bargaining session.
It is important to know that during the first two bargaining sessions a commitment on several non-monetary items was reached with the employer. Given that this is a tentative commitment until a full tentative agreement is reached we are unable to release details while negotiations are underway.
On August 22 and 23, many of your Union leaders and activists met in Halifax and laid the ground work for making each and every one of our 2200 members a crucial part of the bargaining process.
Our goal is to keep you as involved as we can and to make sure that our employer knows how invested we all are in making Bell Aliant a better place to work.
In the coming weeks, we will share details of special events, dates and times on ways that you can show our employer that we all stand united in this round of negotiations.
