Message of condolence: AC8646

Dear Local 531 Members,

We are writing with a heavy heart regarding the tragic aviation accident at LaGuardia Airport late Sunday night. Reports have confirmed that flight AC8646 from Montreal struck an Airport Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) vehicle on the runway shortly after landing.

On behalf of Unifor Local 531, the union extends our deepest condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the two pilots who lost their lives. This loss is felt profoundly across the aviation community, and we stand in solidarity with everyone impacted by this tragedy.

Notice of Nomination and Election Period - Bargaining Committee 2026

As we enter the final year of our first negotiated Collective Bargaining Agreement, set to expire on December 31, 2026, our focus now shifts to preparing for the next round of negotiations. Throughout the coming year, the Bargaining Committee will host a series of information sessions to gather member input, identify emerging issues, and refine the priorities that will guide us to the table in October 2026.

On February 28, Unifor proudly hosted its 3rd Annual Black History Month Celebration, bringing together members from Toronto and across the country for an evening of reflection, recognition, and celebration.

We are seeking two volunteers - one primary representative and one alternate representative who will replace the primary due to absence.

Under the Pay Equity Act, federally regulated employers like WestJet were required to establish and post a Pay Equity Plan by September 3, 2024. That deadline has passed and the work has still not properly begun.
